"Bear" Hughes 1999-2008

February 13, 2008 - Our beloved Golden Retreiver "Bear" passed away early Wednesday morning. He was the sweetest, most loving dog, and he will be greatly missed. He was a cherished part of our family. Bear developed what we thought was an eye infection just before Christmas. It progressed rapidly, and within 2 weeks of noticing there might be a problem, Bear had to have the eye removed. A pathology report revealed it was a very aggressive form of cancer. There were no signs the cancer had spread anywhere else in his body, so we were hopeful that in removing the eye, the cancer might be gone. Unfortunately, we believe it spread to his brain as he suddenly started having grand maul seizures. The day he passed he had 5 violent seizures in a 24-hour period. The last seizure sucked the life force out of him and we knew it was time. This was very unexpected since he had been recovering beautifully and responding wonderfully to holistic treatment. Our dogs are like our kids to us, so this is a very difficult time for us. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we heal from this loss. -Sheila and Chris
